Today I added a "Creativity News" Category. Rereading pages of the "World is Flat" of Thomas Friedman I realized how different the world of our ancestors was from the one we live in. For centuries things did not change or changed very slowly. If your parents were farmers you generally ended up your life as a farmer.
Our children will probably have to learn dozens of different professional activities in their life time. We don't even have the slightest idea of what some will be. Is it good or bad? I don't know. It will certainly imply a lot of stress but also a lot of interesting discoveries. So let us be prepared!
If you look at history life seems to have started with nomadic activities. Just a way to survive. Then came the agricultural revolution, then the industrial with mass production, now the knowledge revolution. That's were everything changes. Repetitive tasks tend to be better done by robots or, temporarily, cheaper by emerging countries' labor force. So what is left to be done for a living by citizens of industrialized countries? Mostly new activities that have yet to be discovered. And that's where creativity becomes a major weapon in the struggle for life.
The good news is that the capacity to create is the noblest part of the human psyche. The bad news is that it implies high level of risks and frustration. Not for everyone! Unless people acquire the emotional mastery that allows them to keep their creator's enthusiasm in face of failure and enjoy new discoveries more than they fear the unknown.
As a first step I suggest you read this article.
